Top 5 Turntables with Speakers

With the resurgence of the vinyl market there has been a huge increase in the amount of top end turntables available at extremely affordable prices – of which I have discussed extensively in other articles and buying guides.

With this has also come in a huge improvement in other areas of vinyl music, including both budget DJ turntables (again which I have discussed extensively), and all in one turntables that come with in built speakers – which brings us to the topic of today’s article.

While turntables with in built speakers have traditionally been looked down upon by audiophiles and DJ’s alike (in which they have been suggested to be an inferior means of listening to vinyl due to their perceived lower quality sound production), advances in recent technology have seen a HUGE improvement in both the quality and durability of these machines.

This has not only resulted in them being an excellent option for listening to vinyl, they are also incredibly cost effective, convenient, and often portable – making them a great option for your lounge room or to take on the road.

But despite this, there are a still a number of turntables with built in speakers on the market that have not been built with acceptable quality materials, and as such it can at times be difficult to find an option that provides good value for money.

With this in mind I have done all the homework for you, finding the top 5 turntables with speakers available for purchase today.

The electrohome signature vinyl record player is a cabinet style stereo system designed with the intent to replicate the famous record players of the sixties – and I must admit that they have done a fantastic job. Crosley Nomad Portable Turntable

Crosley have been producing portable turntables for a number of years, and with each new model comes increased sound quality, durability, and appearance. In my personal opinion, with the Nomad, Crosley have produced their best portable turntable yet.

This machine looks absolutely fantastic, designed using smooth lines to replicate and old school wood style cabinet that would be at home in any 1970 style lunge room. This particular turntable comes with a high quality moving magnet cartridge, and a high quality stylus (made by Audio Technica) to create some serious sound quality.

4. Numark PT01 Portable Turntable

Numark PT01 Portable Turntable

Numark have built an extremely solid reputation by producing high quality turntables at a incredibly affordable price points. With this has come the introduction of a variety of new features - something that is paramount with the PT01.

The PT01 is a portable mixing turntable that has been designed with a built in fader switch, allowing you to create your own unique sound on the go. Despite its affordability, this machine has surprisingly good construction quality and durability, ensuring that it will be able to handle everything you throw at it.

As an added bonus, the PT01 is a delight to look at and an absolute dream to use, in which it simplifies portable music production making it an ideal option for beginner and advaned DJ alike.

It is important to note that while the in built speakers do make some noise, they are not the greatest quality. While this shouldn’t matter when you are at home alone, it wont get much of a look in during a crowded house party.

  • Allows mixing
  • Looks great

What we didn’t like

  • Sound quality leaves a bit on the table

5. ION Audio Vinyl Motion Portable Turntable

ION Audio Vinyl Motion Portable Turntable

ION are a relatively new brand to the turntable game, specialising in budget products with a specific emphasis on portable record players. With this in mind, they have been producing some quality products that deserve a decent look in.

One of which is the Vinyl Motion Portable Turntable.

Designed with the classic suitcase style record players of bygone eras in mind, the Vinyl Motion is an excellent option for those looking for a turntable that they can take absolutely anywhere. Having three distinct speed options (33, 45, and 78 RPM), a rechargeable battery, and high quality built in speakers means this option will genuinely allow you to listen to your favourite records wherever you go.

While the sound quality on this machine is pretty solid, I have heard some reports of it falling apart under heavy duress, putting its durability in question.

What we liked

What we didn’t like

  • Durability has been questioned

Value Section

I should state that although the turntables on this list (in my opinion..) offer the best turntables with speakers on the market today, they may not suit everyone. So with this, I have outlined some key things to look for when purchasing a turntable with built in speakers.

Don’t Chase Fancy Features
There are two key things you want with a portable turntable – durability and sound quality. This will ensure that you can take your turntable with you anywhere and it will play your favourite tunes to an acceptable quality. By chasing fancy features you tend to see a drop in wither durability or sound quality, which is unacceptable.

Don’t purchase on looks alone
While a nice looking machine is, well just that - nice - it isn't essential. Picking a machine that looks nice over the way it sounds or its construction quality is asking for trouble.

With this in mind, you could simply pick one of the 5 excellent options on this list and save yourself some trouble.

Conclusion

And now for the grand finale – while each of the turntables on this list are great options in their own right, for me, there is a clear winner.

The Numark PT01 is the only option designed for scratching specifically, meaning that it provides a great option for you to both make your own tunes and listen to your favourite records. This is combined with great aesthetics, decent sound quality, and of course, excellent durability.

With all this in mind, I can safely say that the Numark PT01 is the best turntable with speakers available on the market today.
