Bookshelf Speakers Under 300

Bookshelf speakers are absolutely essential to any home setup. They allow you to produce a high quality surround sound that can boost the feeling of any party or movie viewing. Their small size make them absolutely perfect for those with limited room, or those who don’t want their audio stage to be out in the open (where it can be easily damaged).

With this in mind, a good bookshelf speaker, needs to pack a punch even despite its somewhat small size. This means great sound quality across a broad range of sounds (ensuring that they are suitable for anything you have in mind), and of course, at higher volumes.

Additionally, they need to be durable and offer a decent level of construction quality – because let’s face it – you want them to last a long time.

Unfortunately it isn’t always as easy to find a good set of bookshelf speakers as we would hope. The issue is that the market is absolutely saturated with subpar bookshelf speakers, offering low sound quality at poor durability.

Which is why I have gone ahead and done all the hard work for you. Taking into consideration the factors mentioned above, I have organise a list of the top 5 bookshelf speakers under 300 dollars, making it easy to find an excellent set of speakers that won’t break the bank

1. JBL Studio 230 6.5 Inch Bookshelf Speaker

JBL Studio 230 6.5 Inch Bookshelf Speaker

JBL are a company that have been producing high quality audio visual products for decades, becoming synonymous with great sounds and excellent looking products. While they rarely delve into the budget range, they have begun producing speakers that can be purchased between 200 and 300 dollars – such as the Studio 230’s.

These bookshelf speakers are JBL’s first entry into the mid-range speaker market – and you should be very happy they have made the jump.

The sound quality on these speakers is excellent, handling a variety of sound ranges across a number of different genres, these speakers are extremely versatile. This comes with some seriously tight bass combined with very clear tones. And while they have at time been criticized for being a little bass heavy compared to their highs, it is negligible at most. I should note that this sound quality is also maintained at higher volumes, making them a great option for those who like their music loud.

This sound has been combined with a nice and sleek matte black finish that is very typical of the speakers within this price range. While these speakers won’t turn any heads, their sound quality alone is worth the investment.

What we liked

  • Great sound quality
  • Nice clean finish
  • Perform well at higher volumes

What we didn’t like

  • Highs could be slightly clearer

2. Edifer R2000DB Powered Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers

Edifer R2000DB Powered Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers

Similar to JBL, Edifer has long been a large player in the audio game, renowned for producing great quality audio products time and time again. But unlike JBL, Edifer have had extensive experience building quality products within budget price ranges.

And again they have delivered.

The first thing you notice about these bookshelf speakers is their appearance, in which they have opted for a simple and sleek gloss black finish that is actually quite elegant. This comes with a solid ‘weighty’ feel that is representative of the high construction quality and durability of these speakers.

With their sleek appearance and serious durability, you might be wondering whether there is a catch associated. I thought the same until I plugged them in – and trust me – there is no catch.

These speakers offer some excellent sound quality for the price. With deep bass notes and crisp, clean highs, these sound like speakers found in much higher price brackets. While I should note that the sound does distort slightly at extremely high volumes, they will have no trouble filling a large room.

A great all round speaker for a ridiculous price.

What we liked

  • Crystal Clear sound
  • Sleek and stylish finish
  • Great construction quality

What we didn’t like

EALC are a German based company that were founded in the 1920’s, that have stuck to their guns and continued producing high quality bold sounding speakers since their formation. And this is no more apparent than in the B6 Bookshelf Speakers.

These speakers offer an extremely balance sound, with sufficient (if not a little soft) bass and crystal clear sounds, these speakers are absolutely perfect for softer genres of music, where they really let the vocals and acoustics shine naturally. This is reinforced at higher volumes where we see slight drop in bass, but the music maintains its clarity.

This excellent sound has been combined with some extremely high construction quality. Offering both excellent internal and external hardware, these speakers are damn near indestructible – seriously, they will hold a place in your home set up or a very long time.

An excellent option for those looking for a more classic sounding set of speakers.

Polk Audio TSi200 Bookshelf Speakers

The American Made TSi200 bookshelf speakers are a great option for those looking to lift the feeling of their home audio setup. Coming in two distinct finishes (black and cherry) and utilising a sleek and simple design, these would suit the most appearance orientated lounge room.

This aesthetic appeal is combined with a very warm and clear sound. While the bass is not as deep as some like, it is decent considering the crystal clear highs, and bright balanced tones that these speakers produce.

This balanced sound makes them absolutely perfect for movie soundtracks and softer musical genres like classical, jazz, and pop. This isn’t to say that they are unsuited to anything else, it is just that with these genres these speakers really start to shine.

This smooth sound has been combined with some solid construction and excellent durability, making them a long lasting addition to your home setup that will not disappoint.

Value Section

Edifier R2000DB Powered Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers

This article outlines what I believe to be the best 5 bookshelf speakers available for under 300 dollars on the market today. Despite, this I do appreciate that each of us are different, and what may suit me may not be what suits you.

With this in mind, I have organised a few key tips that can be implemented when shopping around for a set of bookshelf speakers to ensure that you get the best value for your money.

Sound is your first priority
The sound of your speakers is paramount. This is why you are purchasing them in the first place, and while a nice looking set of speakers are nice to have, if they don’t sound good then they are not worth a cent. Find some speakers that you like the sound of FIRST – this will ensure you won’t ever be disappointed.

Durability is key
Within this price range speakers should be built using good construction methods combined with high quality materials. This means they should feel durable and last you a long time. If they don’t feel sturdy then you should purchase them. Period.

Test your speakers at higher volumes
It is important to remember that we are still shopping within a lower price range. A common issue with budget speakers is that although they sound great at lower volumes, as soon as you turn them up they begin to distort. So make sure when you are shopping you test them out on loud volumes – and if they don’t distort, you have yourselves a decent set of speakers my friends.

Using these tips I guarantee that you will find a decent set of speakers at a solid price. But I saying that, I can also guarantee that you will not be disappointed with ANY of the speakers on this list.

Conclusion

While each of these speakers represent an excellent option in their own right, as with most things, there can only be one winner – and in this scenario there is in my opinion one clear winner.

As mentioned above, at first look it is truly hard to believe that these speakers are available for purchase for under 300 dollars. They are one of the few options that manage to provide excellent durability, great sound quality, and amazing aesthetic appeal into a single package.

With this in mind, these speakers function perfectly across almost every genre, producing both clear and crisp highs, in combination with perfectly deep lows. This has come with some serious volume that will not distort at its top end – ensuring that they will fill even the largest lounge room with crystal clear sounds.

Taking all this into consideration I can safely say that the Klipsch RB-81 Reference II’s are the top bookshelf speakers for under 300 dollars available on the market at the moment (and maybe ever).
